Speaker A:Plus, stick around for a practical exercise you can do today to kickstart your obsession with living your best life.
Speaker A:So stay tuned for this week's Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker A:Hello and welcome to this week's Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker B:I'm Heather Masters and as you probably.
Speaker A:Heard in the introduction, this is all about choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker B:Life and, and your happiness and your joy and your passion for living.
Speaker B:And it was inspired by this week.
Speaker A:When I've been reading and listening to Grant Cardone's book Be Obsessed or Be Average.
Speaker A:And whether you like the guy or.
Speaker B:Not, the, the sentiment is so very timely for me.
Speaker B:I have found myself being unable to commit 100% to what I really love and what I really want to do with my life.
Speaker A:I love the podcast.
Speaker A:Am I 100% in?
Speaker A:I'm probably about 90.
Speaker B:And that's been more evident with kind.
Speaker A:Of running out of ideas for how I can inspire people, how I can.
Speaker B:Inspire this happiness when I wasn't feeling.
Speaker B:Feeling so obsessed, if you like, so.
Speaker A:Passionate about happiness myself.
Speaker B:So this week I wanted to dig into what I'm learning, dig into the commitments I'm making and inviting you to consider whether it's time for you to.
Speaker A:Get obsessed with your own life, with your aliveness, with happiness, with the relationships around you.
Speaker A:And that's one of the things that Grant Cardone starts off saying right at the beginning.
Speaker A:It's not about being obsessed obsessed by one thing.
Speaker B:It's about being obsessed with the things you want to be obsessed with in your life so that you play all.
Speaker A:Out, you go in fully, you're giving everything you give your attention to 100%.
Speaker A:Now, if you don't know, Grant Cardone.
Speaker B:Is a wildly successful entrepreneur and he.
Speaker A:Argues that obsession is the key to unlocking your potential.
Speaker B:And if you do have a problem with the word obsession, then you can replace it with passion.
Speaker A:I was listening to a podcast last.
Speaker B:Week, the School of Greatness, and Brendan.
Speaker A:Burchard was the guest, and he said that the.
Speaker B:There's two things that make successful people really successful, and he's talking millionaires, billionaires.
Speaker B:One of them is, is confidence, assertiveness.
Speaker A:He kind of put those together as one.
Speaker B:And the other thing was conviction.
Speaker A:So if the word obsession doesn't work.
Speaker B:For you, then maybe check in with how convicted you are to achieve what you want.
Speaker A:Back to Grant Cardone in his book Be Obsessed or Be Average, he says.
Speaker B:That obsession is what you need to achieve anything extraordinary.
Speaker B:And it's not about settling for good enough or coasting through life.
Speaker B:It's about relentlessly pursuing what sets your heart on fire.
Speaker A:And I think that's the choice.
Speaker A:And you know, this is the Choosing.
Speaker B:Happy podcast, and it's.
Speaker B:It is a choice.
Speaker A:Where does your happiness lie?
Speaker B:If you're happy coasting through life, then that's absolutely fine.
Speaker B:That's your choice.
Speaker A:But if you feel there's something missing or if life's asking more of you.
Speaker B:Then this is what this episode is all about.
Speaker A:So here's the deal.
Speaker B:Most people are conditioned to avoid obsession, to avoid conviction, to avoid playing fully out and being fully focused on their success.
Speaker A:Society tells us to play it safe.
Speaker B:Don'T get too excited, or to be realistic.
Speaker B:I love that one.
Speaker A:But Cardone flips that script.
Speaker B:He says being average is the real danger.
Speaker B:Average goals, average effort, average, average happiness.
Speaker A:And if you want to choose happiness.
Speaker B:And fulfill your potential, you've got to get obsessed, get convicted about your dreams, your growth and your joy.
Speaker B:For me, being average, playing average, in my experience, I found myself shrinking, really pulling back, especially over the last few.
Speaker A:Years when we've been through lockdowns and the world has changed.
Speaker B:It's been really easy to.
Speaker A:To get comfortable kind of living in a box of my own making.
Speaker B:And this has given me the drive.
Speaker A:If you like, to choose something different.
Speaker B:As we go forward.
Speaker A:So the podcast will change.
Speaker B:I'll become more convicted about helping you.
Speaker B:And as part of that, I would love it if you could drop me a line, drop me an email and let me know what it is that you want from the podcast, what it is that you want from the episodes going forward.
Speaker A:Why do you listen?
Speaker A:Why would you listen?
Speaker B:If I'm not delivering, what is it you'd prefer to hear?
Speaker B:And that email address is heatherhoosinghappy.co.uk now.
Speaker A:Let'S break down three key ideas from the be obsessed or be average book that tie directly into choosing happiness and.
Speaker B:To living up to your potential.
Speaker A:Number one is own your purpose with obsession.
Speaker A:And Cardone emphasizes that obsession starts with.
Speaker B:Knowing your why, your purpose.
Speaker B:And again, he says that it's not just one purpose, it's your purpose for doing what you're doing.
Speaker A:So if you're obsessed with something you're.
Speaker B:Doing at work, know why?
Speaker B:What's the purpose behind your work?
Speaker B:What's the purpose behind your family?
Speaker B:What's the purpose behind your relationships, your broader community?
Speaker A:Happiness isn't something that just happens.
Speaker B:It's a byproduct of living in alignment with your deepest desires and potential.
Speaker B:And when you're obsessed with your purpose, when you're obsessed with living aliveness, irrespective of what's happening to you, you wake up every day with energy, focus and a reason to keep going each even when life gets tough.
Speaker A:So ask yourself, what's the one thing you'd do every day if money and time weren't obstacles?
Speaker B:In fact, Grant Cardone rephrases that question to what's the one thing you do every day if money wasn't part of the equation?
Speaker B:And I feel that question actually gets me thinking broader than.
Speaker A:Because if it wasn't an obstacle, I automatically go to.
Speaker B:Yeah, but maybe it, you know, it would be an obstacle.
Speaker B:So if, if money wasn't even in the equation, what's the one thing you would do every day if it didn't even, you know, you didn't even relate.
Speaker A:To anything that you did?
Speaker A:What would that one thing be?
Speaker A:So that's your starting point.
Speaker A:And choosing happiness means choosing to chase.
Speaker B:That purpose with everything that you've got.
Speaker B:No apologies.
Speaker B:It's that decision point that 100% in point two that Cardone brings up is.
Speaker A:Rejecting mediocrity and raising your standards for.
Speaker B:Yourself and for me.
Speaker B:Part of that is really respecting yourself, respecting your purpose, respecting what you're here for.
Speaker A:If you have that niggling drive that.
Speaker B:Won'T go away and you know you've been ignoring it for 20 years, maybe that's why you're not happy, because you're resisting your passion.
Speaker B:Cardone's mantra is clear.
Speaker A:Average is a failing formula.
Speaker A:If you're settling for a life that's fine or okay, and you're not choosing.
Speaker B:Your passion, then you're probably not choosing happiness.
Speaker A:You're choosing complacency.
Speaker A:And going back to the Brendan Bashar interview, that's one thing that he says, if you aren't choosing your purpose, then you aren't choosing alignment.
Speaker B:And that often is what creates the struggle that we face in everyday life.
Speaker A:So to fulfill your potential, you've got to set massive, almost intimidating goals.
Speaker A:And I struggled with this because, you.
Speaker B:Know, if you set huge, intimidating goals.
Speaker A:Then my brain goes to how am.
Speaker B:I going to fulfill them?
Speaker A:But it's about forgetting the how and just writing them down anyway.
Speaker A:It's a really fascinating way of setting.
Speaker B:Goals the way that Grant Cardone does it.
Speaker A:He.
Speaker B:He doesn't have specific goals that he repeats over and over again, but he writes his goals in the morning when he first wakes up, and at night just before he goes to bed.
Speaker A:So he's choosing those times when your.
Speaker B:Unconscious is really going to buy into what you're envisioning.
Speaker B:So he writes what comes up for him.
Speaker B:He writes what is coming up intuitively.
Speaker A:What he's being guided to write.
Speaker A:And he doesn't question, just writes them down.
Speaker B:But then he visualizes and feels the emotion, feels himself there, writes them as if they're complete.
Speaker B:And I've only been doing it now.
Speaker A:For three days, and I know it's.
Speaker B:Making a difference already, even though some.
Speaker A:Of the things that I'm writing down.
Speaker B:You know, if you wanted to use that word, realistic, they might be years away, but who knows?
Speaker B:I don't know what's going to happen.
Speaker B:And I know that one of them.
Speaker B:There's already things showing up that I could never have predicted.
Speaker B:So I've just got to take the.
Speaker A:Actions that I've been intuitively guided to.
Speaker B:Take and without any attachment, because it's.
Speaker A:Such a big goal.
Speaker A:I'm not attached to it happening now.
Speaker B:And that really makes a difference.
Speaker A:So if you want to feel alive.
Speaker B:If you want to become obsessed with aliveness, obsessed with being present, stop aiming.
Speaker A:For comfortable and start aiming for extraordinary.
Speaker B:Because we are all extraordinary.
Speaker B:I believe that we're all here for our own unique purpose in life.
Speaker B:And if we're choosing complacency and we're.
Speaker A:Choosing not to live, that, that's absolutely fine.
Speaker B:But there's that point of accepting that that's what you're doing and being happy with ties directly to happiness.
Speaker A:Because when you push yourself to grow, you build your confidence, you build your resilience, and you build a sense of accomplishment, even if it's the small things, if it's things that you've been resisting.
Speaker B:And I know that I've been resisting really small things, but knowing that I'm actually automatically doing them, things that I've.
Speaker A:Been putting off for months.
Speaker A:I'm just automatically doing them now.
Speaker A:And that's after three, four days as.
Speaker B:I say, of doing this goal setting and it's making a difference and it's really good.
Speaker B:That sense of accomplishment, of ticking those things that I've been, you know, I've been given mental weight to for months and some of them years when it's taken maybe 10, 15 minutes to actually accomplish them.
Speaker A:So yeah, so you can release a lot of mental baggage by just doing.
Speaker B:A few of those things that actually aren't that big and just questioning why.
Speaker A:You'Ve been resisting anyway.
Speaker A:So happiness isn't found in staying small.
Speaker B:It isn't found in resisting.
Speaker A:It's found in stretching yourself to become.
Speaker B:The best version of you, to move out of your comfort zone, to move forward.
Speaker B:Take massive action consistently is point 3.
Speaker A:And Cardone is all about 10x thinking, taking actions that are 10 times bigger.
Speaker B:Than what you think is necessary.
Speaker B:Now this one, this is my huge resistance and I'll put my hand up and I'm willing to get myself into a mindset that if I am 100%.
Speaker A:Committed to making this go, I am.
Speaker B:Goal, I am going to take the.
Speaker A:Actions that are required.
Speaker A:So choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker B:Own life, with your own happiness, choosing takes massive action.
Speaker B:It means taking consistent action towards your goals.
Speaker B:It's not about waiting for the perfect.
Speaker A:Moment or the right mood.
Speaker B:Though I do think intuitively some things.
Speaker A:Are about waiting for the right time.
Speaker B:It's about showing up every single day and doing the work.
Speaker B:Whether that's learning a new skill, showing up on social media, creating videos, taking photographs.
Speaker B:Yeah, I hate doing selfies.
Speaker A:You probably notice if you ever look.
Speaker B:At any of my social media, there are very few pictures of me.
Speaker B:That's something that I know I need to change and I am willing to do that.
Speaker A:Are you wanting to build a side.
Speaker B:Hustle or are you investing in your.
Speaker A:Mental and emotional well being?
Speaker B:And just on that note, my program.
Speaker A:Is still open and you'll find the.
Speaker B:Link in the comments.
Speaker B:Happiness is a verb.
Speaker A:It's something you do.
Speaker A:And when you take massive action towards your potential and this is what it's about, it's getting obsessed with your potential.
Speaker A:It's getting obsessed with living the life.
Speaker B:You'Re meant to live.
Speaker B:It's a one time journey and it's about questioning, you know what, what would.
Speaker A:You like your legacy to be?
Speaker B:What do you want to be saying that you've achieved?
Speaker A:Create a feedback loop of progress and.
Speaker B:Joy that fuels Your obsession even, and really do check in and celebrate.
Speaker B:I mentioned this over and over again.
Speaker A:Celebrating those small things as well as the big things.
Speaker B:And part of that feedback loop is.
Speaker A:Just writing those goals each day and noticing how they change as you achieve them.
Speaker B:Okay, let's get real for a second.
Speaker A:Now, choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker B:Life and happiness isn't just about big ideas.
Speaker A:It's about practical steps you can take right now, today.
Speaker A:So here's a quick exercise inspired by.
Speaker B:Cardone's philosophy to help you ignite that obsession and start fulfilling your potential today.
Speaker A:I'm calling it the Obsession Blueprint.
Speaker B:So grab a notebook or open a note on your phone and let's do this together.
Speaker A:It's designed to help you clarify your purpose and commit to massive action.
Speaker B:It'll take about 10 minutes, but it.
Speaker A:Could change the trajectory of your life.
Speaker B:If you choose for it to.
Speaker B:As Grant Cardone specifies, you don't just have one purpose.
Speaker A:You might have one overarching purpose.
Speaker B:But what we're looking at is what's your purpose in your family life?
Speaker B:What's your purpose at work?
Speaker B:What's your purpose with your friends and with your community?
Speaker A:So choose one of those.
Speaker A:Choose one of those purposes.
Speaker B:So if you're thinking about work, for instance, we're going to begin with writing your obsessed why?
Speaker A:And answer this question.
Speaker B:What's one goal or dream that makes you feel alive just thinking about it?
Speaker A:Maybe it's starting a business or writing.
Speaker B:A book or becoming the healthiest version of yourself of finding Mr.
Speaker A:Right or Mrs.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:Write it down and then write why it matters to you.
Speaker B:And be specific about why it matters.
Speaker A:What'S important to you about it.
Speaker A:When you write that first thing down.
Speaker B:Ask again what's important to you about that till you get to the core, the reality essence of why this is important to you, why it matters.
Speaker B:Be specific and be specific about how achieving this will make you happier, more fulfilled, feel more alive, and help you fulfill your potential.
Speaker B:So pause the recording and take a moment to do that.
Speaker A:Now, step two is to define your 10x goal.
Speaker B:So take that dream and make it 10 times bigger.
Speaker A:For example, if your goal is to.
Speaker B:Get fit, your 10 times goal might be to run a marathon and inspire.
Speaker A:Others to prioritize their health.
Speaker B:If it's to start a business, your.
Speaker A:10 times goal could be to build.
Speaker B:A business that impacts thousands of lives.
Speaker B:Get specific about it, though.
Speaker A:So instead of, you know, thousands of lives, how many thousands, thousands of lives.
Speaker B:Would you like to inspire and impact this year?
Speaker B:Write down this bigger, bolder vision, write.
Speaker A:It as if it's already happened and don't censor yourself.
Speaker B:Let it be audacious.
Speaker A:So one of my goals, and it's.
Speaker B:Something I don't mention very often, is to create a sanctuary for children who have suffered from abuse.
Speaker B:And I've been writing that goal down for a while, but I haven't done it morning and night and I started to do it morning and night and.
Speaker A:I, I have a very clear vision.
Speaker B:Of, of how it would be set up, what the structure would be, how it would work, how it would be funded.
Speaker A:So I have a very clear vision.
Speaker B:Of this place and I.
Speaker B:And part of the vision is, you know, hundreds of children, happy children who are healing and moving forward.
Speaker B:Yesterday there was something that tied in with a few books that I'm reading that gives me an opportunity to take.
Speaker A:An action, to move forward on this.
Speaker A:And that's what step three is.
Speaker A:Commit to one massive action.
Speaker A:And a massive action can just be.
Speaker B:Something that is going to make.
Speaker A:It can be a small action that.
Speaker B:Makes a big difference.
Speaker B:And that's what I'm going to do today.
Speaker B:I'm actually going to reach out to.
Speaker A:A charity that's already working with these children.
Speaker A:So pick one action you can take.
Speaker B:Today to move towards that 10x goal.
Speaker A:It could be signing up for a.
Speaker B:Course, it could be scheduling a workout, or it could be doing that thing you're resisting.
Speaker B:So I was talking to a friend.
Speaker A:Yesterday who was saying that her husband.
Speaker B:Wanted to start running, but he.
Speaker A:The thing he put in his way, the resistance was that he decided he.
Speaker B:Needed some new running clothes, which he never bought, so he never got out running.
Speaker A:So if you have the same thing.
Speaker B:That, yeah, I'm going to do that, but have a look at that butt and remove it.
Speaker B:Choose if that butt's big enough.
Speaker B:If you really do need to buy new workout clothes, then go buy them.
Speaker B:If it's just an excuse, just go run.
Speaker B:So whether it's emailing someone who can help you, which is what I'll be doing today, whatever it is, whatever you've been resisting, begin today.
Speaker B:Choose to remove that barrier and just start.
Speaker A:Write it down.
Speaker B:And then here's the key.
Speaker B:Do it within the next 24 hours.
Speaker B:So I'm holding up my hand that I am sending this email today, so it'll be sent in the next 24 hours.
Speaker A:And as I say this, this sanctuary.
Speaker B:Feels so out of reach right now.
Speaker B:But who knows?
Speaker A:Let's see what happens with this email.
Speaker B:Cardone says action creates momentum and momentum creates fulfillment, happiness, aliveness, because you can feel that energy.
Speaker B:And when you're done, keep this blueprint.
Speaker B:Keep these answers somewhere that you can see them daily, have a look at them morning and night.
Speaker B:Revisit it, refine it, and keep taking massive action and create it for other.
Speaker A:Areas of your life.
Speaker B:So this is one goal we're looking at.
Speaker B:Choose how you can become obsessed with your life and your happiness and with these goals that you're creating for yourself.
Speaker A:I hope you've enjoyed this episode.
Speaker B:Let's wrap up this with this one final thought from Obsessed or be average.
