Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Choosing Happy podcast.

2

:

I'm your host, Heather Masters.

3

:

And on today's show, we're going

to explore how looking at life

4

:

from different perspectives can

bring you more joy, more happiness.

5

:

meaning and happiness.

6

:

And we're going to use some metaphors

around jigsaws and Scrabble to illustrate

7

:

this concept in a fun and insightful way.

8

:

So I invite you to subscribe,

to like, and to join me.

9

:

And this week's Choosing Happy Podcast.

10

:

Hello and welcome to this

week's Choosing Happy Podcast.

11

:

I'm Heather Masters.

12

:

Life can often feel like a

giant unsolved jigsaw puzzle.

13

:

Especially when it sometimes

feels out of your control.

14

:

When we look at everything that's

happening in the world, all of the

15

:

pieces of the puzzle flying and

changing and shifting each day, it

16

:

can really feel like a struggle.

17

:

But one of the real key things

that I remember When I think

18

:

about all of this, it's that

every piece of the puzzle counts.

19

:

So even if you feel like you're a piece

of sky that's insignificant and no one's

20

:

bothered with, actually, you're a piece

of the puzzle and the puzzle cannot

21

:

be completed without you taking part.

22

:

And sometimes it seems like we're

given all these random pieces.

23

:

We're given the circumstances,

relationships, opportunities, challenges

24

:

in our lives, and we have to figure

out how to put together our part of

25

:

the puzzle into a coherent picture.

26

:

But here's the thing, if we only

look at those puzzle pieces one way,

27

:

we can get frustrated, We can get

annoyed trying to make them fit.

28

:

Often, the universe has

a bigger picture in mind.

29

:

So, we're only laying the

foundations for a new part of

30

:

the puzzle to fall into place.

31

:

And sometimes when we turn around those

pieces that we're struggling with, We

32

:

see that they actually fit perfectly for

a picture that we just hadn't seen yet.

33

:

So, being able to see things from a

different angle, or a perspective,

34

:

suddenly the connections become clear.

35

:

And I love to remember that the

universe, the creator, the creator.

36

:

Whatever you call it, always

has my highest interest in mind.

37

:

This is all a journey towards

my destiny, my higher purpose.

38

:

So, sometimes when pieces that seemed

hopelessly mismatched, they can

39

:

suddenly start interlocking perfectly.

40

:

And that's a gift of hindsight.

41

:

The gift of looking back

and joining the dots.

42

:

The same is true for other

puzzles that life throws our way.

43

:

By shifting our viewpoint, say for your

business, we can find meaning, lessons,

44

:

and even unexpected gifts in the most

challenging and difficult situations.

45

:

So maybe you didn't land that client,

but you were really pinning your hopes

46

:

on And yet, there's a better one around

the corner, and you couldn't have signed

47

:

with them if you'd signed that first one.

48

:

Maybe you didn't buy the house, that

dream home you were after, and yet there's

49

:

another one around the corner, which is

even better, in an even better location,

50

:

and is perfect for you and your family.

51

:

What once looked like a hopeless

jumble starts coming together in

52

:

a beautiful way when we adjust

our lens, adjust our expectations

53

:

and allow life to show us the way.

54

:

Another great analogy for this concept

is the game of Scrabble, and we're

55

:

dealt a random bunch of letter tiles.

56

:

Some players might look and

see only the limitations.

57

:

You know, you might say, I

can't make anything, any good

58

:

words with these letters.

59

:

But the skilful Scrabble

player sees the possibilities.

60

:

They find ways to creatively

combine and rearrange those letters.

61

:

into high scoring words.

62

:

Not just the ones that are already on the

tiles, but they look at the big picture.

63

:

If you like, they look at the jigsaw,

they look at the scrabble board, and

64

:

they know where just adding one The low

scoring letter can create a massive high

65

:

score with what's already been played.

66

:

And in life, we can't always control

the circumstances and challenges

67

:

that get tossed our way any more

than we can pick the letters

68

:

we're given in the Scrabble game.

69

:

But we can decide how we make use of them.

70

:

We can decide that.

71

:

Okay, this one random letter,

maybe I've been landed with the Z.

72

:

Yeah, what am I supposed to do with that?

73

:

But if I look at what's actually

around me, what's available to

74

:

me, where in my life I can add

that Z to compound the results.

75

:

That's especially true in business.

76

:

When we think about when everyone

went into lockdowns, businesses had

77

:

to really think laterally to come

up with new and innovative ways.

78

:

If there's something that's happened

over the last two, three years,

79

:

it's the amount of innovation.

80

:

The new types of businesses, the new

ways of doing business, the new ways

81

:

of marketing, the additions to existing

businesses to make them work online and

82

:

remotely that were never there before.

83

:

So what can you do with the letters

that you hold in your hand, either

84

:

in your business or your life,

to create new combinations and

85

:

craft something new, interesting?

86

:

and high scoring.

87

:

The happiest people are the ones who

approach life's letters and jigsaws with

88

:

creativity, openness, and a willingness

to spell out fresh perspectives.

89

:

They don't get flustered by seemingly

random tiles or random things that the

90

:

universe sends their way, but they see

them as opportunities Possibilities

91

:

and the gift of having a chance

for novel thinking, for thinking

92

:

out of the box, for disrupting.

93

:

How can we start looking at life's

jigsaws and scrabble racks in a new way?

94

:

Here are a few suggestions.

95

:

Question your assumptions.

96

:

Question how you're looking at the world.

97

:

The lens we view the world through is

largely shaped by our beliefs, our values,

98

:

our experiences and habits of thought.

99

:

But those can distort reality or

cause us to miss important details.

100

:

They can limit what we see.

101

:

Regularly questioning your assumptions

about people, situations, and yourself can

102

:

reveal new angles and new possibilities.

103

:

Seek out viewpoints.

104

:

Make it a point to have conversations

with people from different

105

:

backgrounds, cultures, walks of life.

106

:

People with different opinions who cause

you to question, to examine, to explore.

107

:

The way they see the world can

expose you to new perspectives

108

:

you'd never consider on your own.

109

:

Change your routine.

110

:

Routines are psychological lenses

that can keep us stuck in a

111

:

narrow way of perceiving things.

112

:

So, switch up your daily patterns.

113

:

Take a new route.

114

:

Visit an unfamiliar

place or try a new hobby.

115

:

These different experiences can

shake up your viewpoint and even

116

:

introduce you to new synchronicities.

117

:

Reframe challenges.

118

:

As I said earlier, rather than reflexively

seeing obstacles as negative, reframe

119

:

them as opportunities to innovate,

grow, or re evaluate your approach.

120

:

Remember that.

121

:

There's a great perspective

on seeing the universe.

122

:

It's always for me.

123

:

So what are the lessons

and insights you can gain?

124

:

By looking at this challenge from

a different angle or perspective.

125

:

Practice gratitude.

126

:

This one's always there.

127

:

When we appreciate the small,

positive details in our lives, it

128

:

helps us see the bigger picture in

a more balanced, optimistic light.

129

:

Gratitude and appreciation gives us a

lens of abundance rather than lack and

130

:

can shift the way that we see things.

131

:

That can show us the opportunities and

possibilities that we may not be able

132

:

to see from a limited perspective.

133

:

And finally, the one I started with.

134

:

Remember that you're an

important piece of the puzzle.

135

:

You're an important letter

on the Scrabble board.

136

:

You're an important piece of the jigsaw.

137

:

The world is never

complete without you in it.

138

:

And God, Creator, Universe

never makes mistakes.

139

:

You're as important as any other piece of

the jigsaw from the Creator's perspective.

140

:

And the bottom line is that our level

of happiness is greatly impacted by

141

:

the lens we choose to view the world.

142

:

And being able to put on a new pair of

glasses to adjust our perspective and

143

:

start looking for the possibilities,

the opportunities, the different ways

144

:

of doing things, maybe the possibility

to disrupt can always bring everything

145

:

into a clear, more exciting, more

interesting and vibrant focus for us.

146

:

So take a moment to really look

for the connections, the unexpected

147

:

meanings, lessons, or even gifts

hidden within our challenges.

148

:

Approach obstacles with an open,

creative mindset instead of getting

149

:

stuck in one rigid perspective.

150

:

I hope you found this helpful.
